Let's start by understanding what is Hyaluronic Acid, often called HA.
Despite the use of the word “acid,” it is not an exfoliator. It is actually a molecule that controls the water content of the skin. Our own skin cells produce HA naturally but, thanks to aging and environmental aggressors like pollution, those levels tend to take a dip. And that's when skincare products such as Hyaluronic Acid serums come to the rescue.
The Benefits of Hyaluronic Acid
- Hydrates the skin and maintains this hydration as a humectant*
- Can make skin appear firm and youthful
- Protects cells from premature aging
- Can speed up wound healing
- Safe for use with all skin types
*Humectants draw moisture into the top layer of skin (stratum corneum).
Who Should Use Hyaluronic Acid Serum?
Skin moisture drops significantly as we age. This leads to the skin lose elasticity and show the signs of ageing. HA serum is a great addition to your skincare routine if these are your skin concerns or if you are looking to add moisture to your skin. As mentioned earlier, it is suitable for all skin types.
If you are new to serums, Hyaluronic Acid is an easy way to get started with serums. Unlike other potent serums that may need to be applied specifically in the morning or at night, Hyaluronic Acid can be applied any time, and you can use it daily (twice if you want). There are no known negative reactions with other skincare products.
How to Use HA Serum?
Here are the easy steps to show you exactly how to use HA serum:
Step 1: Wash your face using cleanser.
Step 2: Apply toner or facial mist and leave the skin moist. Or just splash your face with some water.
Step 3: Apply your HA serum onto your face whilst it is still damp: press a couple of drops into your face with your fingertips.
Step 4: Apply your moisturizer on top. This will help seal in the moisture and you can do it immediately after applying the serum.
Step 5: If you wish, follow with your eye cream. If you are using HA serum during the daytime, don't forget to apply sunscreen (after serum). Once it has dried, you can apply makeup if you want.
Hyaluronic Acid serum can also be used together with other serums, for example, C Vitamin serum. If using C vitamin serum, apply it first followed by HA serum.
